Nepali Dance Costumes Display

Hong Kong Nepalese Federation

Showcasing the Nepali dance costumes of the Sakela Dance, celebrated by the indigenous Kirat Rai people. The festival occurs twice a year: in April to May, marking the beginning of the agricultural season, and in November to December, expressing gratitude for the harvest. The Sakela Dance is performed in a circular formation, led by male and female leaders (Silimangpa and Silimangma). The dance steps, known as ‘Sili’, mimic natural movements, farming practices, and animal behaviors, paying tribute to ancestors, nature, and community life.
