Handmade Masks of "Dancing Devils of Corpus Christi"

There are 11 confraternity across Venezuela following the Dancing Devil tradition, and the “Dancing Devils of Yare” is one of the celebrated festivals since 1749. It is led by a brotherhood consisting groups of devil dancers.

The masks resembles a winged dragon and varies in sizes. The longer the brotherhood’s history is, the bigger the masks are. The number of horns on the mask represents the hierarchy of the dancers. These masks are handmade using paper maché and is painted with different colors. They are made to resemble horned animals like dragons and cattle.

Dancers usually dress in red and dance throughout the town. This festival symbolises the fight between good and evil.
