Nepalese Traditional Lakhe Mask

Lakhe mask

The mask in display is used in Lakhe dances, one of the most popular dances in Nepal. This dance tradition is usually celebrated by the “Newars”.

The character Lakhe is known to be a demon, who turned into a protector of the forest it lived in. It has a monstrous face, protruding fangs with red hair as seen on the Lakhe mask.
